Nutrient Management Plans (NMP)

A nutrient management plan is created to manage the application of fertilizers, manure, and soil conditions to meet crop nutrient needs efficiently and sustainably. While being specific to your land, the crops you grow, and many other factors that change – no matter the size of your operation.

What is a Nutrient Management Plan (NMP)

A plan created to Follow the 4Rs: Right Source (match fertilizer to crop needs), Right Time (nutrients available to match crop needs), Right Rate (matches amount of fertilizer the crop needs), and Right Place (keeps nutrients where crops can use them).

Who needs a Nutrient Management Plan (NMP)?

Any producer may have a nutrient plan. These plans are not specific to size of operation or specific to the crops that you may grow.

The importance of a NMP

A nutrient management plan has various benefits which include:

Improves Soil Health & Crop Yields

Supplies nutrients when crops need them most, maximizing yields and improving soil fertility for the long term.

Portects Our Water

Reduces the risk of nutrient loss into our water sources like streams, lakes, and ground water. Keeping our water clean for future generations.

Saves Money

Better nutrients use means less spent on inputs and more efficiency. Improving your bottom line.

You could save an average of nearly $30 per acre on  fertilizer costs with a Nutrient Management Plan.

Meets Regulations & Reduces Risks

Producers stay compliant with state regulations and demonstrates good stewardship.
